Instead, their behavior with respect to possible coindexations is determined by pragmatic and discourse factors, such as logophoricity. The behavior of exempt anaphors in the grammar of English can be illustrated by the last two lines of Queen and Bowies 1982 song Under Pressure:

Tibor Kiss Reflexivity and Dependency
The introduction of exempt reflexives in Pollard and Sag (1992; 1994) and Reinhart and Reuland (1993) has led to a new characterization of ‘picture-NP-reflexives’, which are no longer considered anaphoric. These analyses, however, do not provide a clear concept of the term ‘anaphor’ any more, and cannot account for the existence of picture-NP-reflexives in languages without exempt reflexives. F...
متن کاملBinding Domains: Anaphoric and Pronominal Pronouns in Categorial Grammar
In this paper we present a treatment for anaphoric pronouns and reflexives in a Type Logical Grammar. To this end, we introduce structural modalities into the left pronominal rule of the categorial calculus with limited contraction LLC [8]. Following a proposal due to Hepple [6], we also sketch an analysis for the long-distance anaphora seg from Icelandic.

It makes the definition and translation of anaphoric relations possible, relat...
